“GREEN” MOTHER’S DAY GIFT IDEAS
Mom always appreciates the flowers, perfume and going out to dinner on Mother’s Day, but there are other ways to show her how much she’s loved that last long after those gifts are gone.
In the spirit of “going green” here are some great Mother’s Day gift ideas that not only help our environment but go a long way in making mom’s special day even better.
SPRING CLEAN WITH GREEN
It seems like mothers get stuck with most (or all) of the spring cleaning every year. Why not pitch in and help her? Schedule a day when you both can have a spring cleaning “party” and buy all recycled and organic cleaning products. There are more and more choices on the market than ever before as we all become more environmentally aware.
These products are just as efficient as chemically produced cleaners, non-toxic and don’t pose the pollution concerns when you dispose of them.
Don’t forget those old basics. We all know the countless uses of household items for cleaning; white vinegar and baking soda being two very useful items. Perfect “green” cleaning solutions that cost little and work great.
Not only will mom greatly appreciate the help from you but you both will have done your part in protecting “Mother Earth” from unnecessary chemicals.
GET RID OF THOSE PLASTIC BAGS
Do you know that in some countries plastic grocery bags are being discontinued altogether or you must purchase them at the store? These bags last for countless years in our landfills without breaking down. For a Mother’s Day get her a collection of reusable grocery bags.
The best choice is sturdy tote bags made of canvas. They’re easy to carry, can handle the weight and an excellent “green” Mother’s Day gift idea. Use your imagination! Get some in her favorite color, or with her favorite flower or cute animal picture.
Add a small remarkable board and marker for her grocery list instead of throwing away a paper list every time to avoid even more waste.
GET THE HOUSE ENERGY EFFICIENT
With energy prices soaring, we all need to find ways to conserve any way we can. The house is a great place to start.
Leaky windows, unsealed doors, inadequate insulation and inefficient heating/cooling systems quickly add up to high utility bills.
For a unique Mother’s Day gift idea, have an energy consultant come and inspect her home. Contact your local electric company; they often will do this for free.
Mom may be very surprised at how much money she could save by making some basic changes around her house.
Once she knows what she needs to do either help her with the improvements or hire someone to get the job done.
NO MORE INCANDESCENT BULBS
There are states now that intend to discontinue the use of traditional incandescent light bulbs due to their negative impact to the environment. The wave of the future will be the new “compact fluorescent” bulbs that are now on the market. They’re more expensive than regular bulbs but last much longer than incandescent bulbs. That means fewer spent bulbs in our landfills and less energy consumption.
A great Mother’s Day gift idea would be to buy her some pretty new lamps for around the house and use these new bulbs in them. Then go around and change the rest of bulbs for her.
Treat her with a great new book from her favorite author so she can relax with it under her pretty new reading lights!
DON’T FORGET MOM’S WHEELS
As busy as we all are these days it is easy to forget simple maintenance on our vehicles. By putting off that tune up on the car you’re consuming more fuel than necessary.
As a Mother’s Day gift idea why not take her car in for a thorough tune up? Basic things like new spark plugs, new tires or an air conditioner check up could save her a great deal of money.
Not only will she have more dollars in her wallet but she’s helping to reduce the air pollution and wasted fuel, an ever increasing problem.
After the tune up bring mom’s car to be detailed, it’s like spring cleaning for her car!
Maybe while her car is being done you can treat her to a spa session or massage. Who wouldn’t like that Mother’s Day gift!
Celebrate this Mother’s Day by using some of these “green” gift ideas and you’ll not only show mom how special she is but Mother Earth will be grateful too!
UNIQUE IDEAS FOR HALLOWEEN TREATS
Keeping kids safe this season is every parent's concern. Worry over tainted candy is a problem that reoccurs every Halloween not to mention all the extra sugar. Here are some great alternatives to give out this Halloween that keep the parent's mind at ease and the trick-or-treaters safe.
Pencils or Erasers
Believe it or not, a friend of mine (who used to be a grade school teacher) decided to offer either treats or Halloween themed pencils one year to her trick-or-treaters. Guess which was the winner? Pencils!
The kids were so surprised with these Halloween unusual treats. The parents were equally pleased and appreciative of such a unique idea for Halloween treats.
This same idea can be done with erasers. Buy some in neat shapes, hot colors and the like and you have another safe alternative to traditional Halloween treats. Just be sure to select ones that cannot be mistaken for candy and don't hand them out to very small children.
Temporary Tattoos or Stickers
Children love cute little Halloween tattoos and stickers. They are available in ten-packs for about $1.50 per pack. Just separate the packs and hand them individually or in pairs. Little may girls like princesses, witches, butterflies, angels or lady bugs. The boys may like monsters, superheroes, pirates, or perhaps popular cartoon characters.
This unique Halloween treats idea is a hit with both the kids and the parents!
Game Tokens
This idea is for the older trick-or-treaters who like to play games using tokens. If it is affordable, stop by a popular kids gathering place that features games played using tokens. Purchase some to hand out to your trick-or-treaters as Halloween treats (just one or two at a time is plenty).
These Halloween treats not only are a healthy alternative but keep the kids busy for awhile. A sure winner with their parents!
Party Favors
Halloween party favors can be purchased by the bag and are a great alternative to candy. Things like plastic spiders, bats, ghosts and glow sticks can be used. Hunt for bargains whenever you go shopping. Even grocery stores may have some great choices. Halloween treats can come in all shapes and sizes so always be on the look out for good deals.
Clearance Sales
Oftentimes I run across real bargains for Halloween treat ideas at store clearance sales. Look for things like small plastic toys sold by the bag, costume jewelry, little sunglasses, crayons and even story or coloring books. I've seen them all priced way below retail and they make great Halloween treats that both parents and kids will like.
Of course the age of your trick-or-treaters is a factor in what is appropriate for their Halloween treats. It is best to have a variety of items available to accommodate all the different ages of your visitors. Also, avoid any items that appear to be candy or something else edible as you don't want to create a choking hazard, especially in smaller children.
Use your imagination this year as you look for unique Halloween treats. There are so many possibilities!
Depending on your budget and how many Halloween trick-or-treaters you expect, there are many alternatives to handing out candy. These unique ideas for Halloween treats are both safer and healthier for all the "terrors" coming to your door this Halloween.
You'll be giving their parents piece of mind and the kids will be thrilled with such unique "treats". These ideas are sure to be a hit all around!
Halloween Treat Ideas - Choosing the Right Candy
Before you go shopping for your trick-or-treaters this year you might want to know what the kid's idea of a favorite Halloween treat is and what other things are handed out instead of Halloween candy.
FAVORITE HALLOWEEN TREAT IDEAS
According to recent surveys anything chocolate is the hands down winner for most popular Halloween treat. When asked what their favorite brand of candy was Reese's Peanut Butter Cups came up on top.
The top ten favorite Halloween treats rank Reese's Peanut Butter Cups as number one, with the next nine positions belonging to Snickers, KitKat, Butterfinger, Nestle Crunch, Hershey bars, candy corn, Three Muskeeters, Milky Way and popcorn balls.
Other popular choices for Halloween treats were lollipops, gummy candy and gum.
Bite size candy was also favored over full size chocolate bars (believe it or not)!
So if you want to be a hit this year with all your trick-or-treaters, now you're armed with just the right information before you hit the grocery store with your Halloween treats list.
HALLOWEEN TREAT STRATEGIES
Instead of just plopping down on the floor and devouring every last morsel, kids actually have certain strategies when it comes to how they handle their precious Halloween treats.
According to a recent survey, sorting their Halloween candy by order of most favorite is a must before enjoying their treats. After that crucial step, kids will generally eat their favorite Halloween candy first and then either share the rest or save it for later.
Swapping Halloween treats is also another way kids like to handle their precious cargo.
NOT SO POPULAR HALLOWEEN TREAT IDEAS
Thinking of handing out something besides candy this year? Although you'll be popular with parents, your trick-or-treaters may not be so thrilled to get something other than Halloween candy.
Here are some of things that according to seasoned trick-or-treaters, are the least popular Halloween treat ideas to hand out instead of Halloween candy. Topping the list was homemade cookies or cereal bars, followed by toys, salty snacks like potato chips or pretzels and fruit.
So beware of what you choose this year or you may find yourself on the trick end of a trick-or-treater!
TRICK-OR-TREATERS BEWARE!
Did you know that about ninety percent of parents admit they like to sneak treats from their kids stash? The bite size chocolates were the most "thieved" item out the bag. Other popular targets are M&M's, caramels and gum. Licorice however, tends to be left alone as the least favorite Halloween treat to sneak.
According to a survey done with kids 6-11 years old, most of them will share their loot with family and friends. Some will share it with their teacher (smart thinking)! Only a small percentage said they would not share their Halloween treats at all.
When a group of parents were surveyed about how they choose what to hand for Halloween candy most will select their own favorite candy verses buying either what is on sale or what the kid's favorites are.
Most parents also said they have a plan as to how many pieces of candy a day they will allow their children to have. Some parents bring a portion of the Halloween treats in to work and a few will keep a little on hand for home.
As you shop this year looking for just the right Halloween treats, keep in mind that your choices mean more than you think! It is not only the kids that will be watching who has the best treats. Their parents will be eyeing that trick-or-treat bag too! Happy Halloween!
Go Green this Halloween - Environmentally Safe Party and Decorating Ideas
It is really pretty easy to adopt "greener" ways to celebrate the coming Halloween season. Here are a few ideas to help celebrate the holiday, help keep our environment clean and save you money.
GET CREATIVE
Paper Halloween party invitations are appealing but try "recycling" your invitation into something and avoid the wasted paper. Make your Halloween party invitations something they'll want to keep. Most dollar stores carry a variety of affordable favors that you can use for this Halloween party idea.
Throwing a Halloween party for kids? Instead of traditional paper Halloween party invitations, try using inexpensive party favors. Transform a Halloween treat bag into a unique party invitation by simply writing all the party information right on the bag. Have the kids bring their bag to the party so they can fill it with treats.
Luminary bags also work well for this Halloween party idea. Ask the guests to bring their luminary bag with them to the party and your invitation just turned into a Halloween party decoration!
SAVE SOME GAS
I see so many parents following their kids in the car as they trick-or-treat. Weather permitting, why not join them as they "scare" all the neighbors! You've just cut down on gas emissions, saved money, gotten some exercise and had fun doing it!
PAPER PRODUCTS
Whether it is Halloween decorations or party supplies, paper is the best choice. It is affordable and most of all recyclable. There are numerous choices of garland, streamers, table coverings and window décor.
For entertaining, use Halloween themed paper cups, plates and napkins for your party. They make clean up easy, just throw them in the recycle bin and you're done!
Also, don't forget all those aluminum cans, plastic utensils and bottles, they can all be recycled too.
FOR YOUR OWN TRICK-OR-TREATERS
If you have kids planning to head out for some treats this Halloween, give them a Halloween themed gift or treat bag to use for collecting their candy instead of the traditional plastic pumpkin. Usually the pumpkin gets discarded after awhile anyway. A Halloween themed gift bag makes a perfect "one shot" candy holder that can then be easily discarded and recycled.
SAVE ON ELECTRICITY
Most people who decorate with lights for Halloween know to expect an increase in their power bill. Did you know you can save up to 90% on your total energy bill by using L.E.D. Halloween lights? L.E.D. Halloween lights burn brighter, cooler, longer and more efficiently than their traditional counterparts.
Because L.E.D. Halloween lights burn cooler than incandescent lights, the risk of someone being burned by them is all but eliminated also.
L.E.D. lights last years longer than incandescent (up to twelve depending on the color). This means you won't be throwing away lights and replacing them with new ones as often. You'll be keeping waste down and saving money.
By burning less energy, less pollution is created to generate the extra power we all use at Halloween for our lights and lighted decorations.
Going "green" is the responsibility of all of us. As you plan your party and decorate for Halloween this year, think of ways to create a festive, fun atmosphere without creating the waste. With just a little effort, using these Halloween decorating and party ideas are sure to keep more cash in your pocket and help our environment stay clean and healthy. Happy Halloween!
SELECTING THE RIGHT CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
With all the varieties of lights available, choosing the perfect ones for your decorating project can be a challenge. Here is a guide to the difference between the styles and the most effective ways to use them.
MINIATURE "MINI" CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTS
Mini lights were introduced in the 1970's as a solution to the excessive power consumed by C7 and C9 lights. Their lower wattage, brilliant sparkle and diversity make them an ever popular choice.
The quality of Christmas tree mini lights will dictate the life of the bulbs; the less expensive the string, the shorter the life. Inexpensive string lights only last about 300 hours, plan on replacing them every year. The better quality mini lights can last up 2,000 hours but will cost you more.
Most Christmas tree mini lights come in strands of 50 or 100 bulbs but other choices are available. Some string lights are designed to stay lit even if a bulb burns out (this is called "wired in parallel"). Be sure and replace the burned bulb promptly as the voltage to the remaining bulbs will increase and reduce the life of the string lights.
DECORATING WITH CHRISTMAS TREE MINI LIGHTS
The important thing to remember with incandescent Christmas tree lights is to never connect more than three strings together.
Mini lights are suitable for both indoor and outdoor decorating. They are mostly used in indoor trees, outdoor shrubs, around tree trunks, as window borders and as accents to other decorations. Basically anytime a large amount of small points of light are needed for the desired affect.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEEN C7 and C9 LIGHTS
C7 and C9 bulbs are generally considered traditional outdoor Christmas lights. Their large size makes them easily visible and bright.
The difference between C7 and C9 bulbs is mainly the size of the bulb and the wattage. They are available in either 2,000 hour life (120V) or 3,000 hour life (130V). C7 light bulbs are about 2 inches while C9 light bulbs are about 3 inches. Wattages vary anywhere from 3.5 watts up to 10 watts depending on the bulb size.
C7 and C9 lights use screw type sockets so bulb replacement is easy.
DECORATING WITH C7 & C9 LIGHTS
Because these lights are large, they make an excellent choice for decorating large outdoor trees and shrubs, building perimeters, fences or anywhere that a "classic" holiday look is desired.
Once again, you can only connect up to three strings together at once.
ROPE LIGHTS
Rope lights are the "new kid on the block" in holiday light choices. Essentially rope lights are just mini lights encased in a PVC jacket. There are a multitude of colors available and a variety of lengths making them an easy and affordable choice. Retail stores generally sell them in lengths of 3, 6 and 8 feet. Rope lights can also be purchased in spools of 50 and 150 feet for larger projects. Rope lights sold in spools can be field cut at 3 or 6 foot intervals for custom looks and designs.
DECORATING WITH ROPE LIGHTS
Rope lights are an excellent choice for creating figures, designs and as accents for walkways, handrails and borders. Their flexibility makes them perfect for creating shapes like snowmen, reindeer, wreaths and the like. They are limited only by your imagination.
One thing to note with rope lights is that if one bulb burns out, then a section anywhere from 3 to 6 feet will also burn out. If you have a long continuous run you can splice in a new length. If you've purchased short lengths then the entire rope light will have to be replaced.
The quality of the rope light will determine its dependability, so as you evaluate your choices bear in mind that the less expensive rope lights may have to be replaced much sooner than their more expensive counterparts.
Decorating with lights is the most effective way to create a festive atmosphere any time of the year. We're all accustomed to seeing Christmas lights in the winter and Halloween lights in fall, but string lights can be used for any special occasion. Select the right string lights for your project and you'll be pleased with the brilliance and sparkle they give to any holiday or event.
HALLOWEEN COSTUME IDEAS - WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR OLD COSTUME
If you have a costume that is still in good shape but won't be worn this year, don't just toss it away. Here are some ideas on how to put your (or your child's) costume to good use.
DONATE IT
Women's Shelters - These make excellent places to donate a used Halloween costume. Many single mothers are faced with the heartbreak of not being able to afford a Halloween costume for their kids. Can you just see their child's little face smile when they realize they'll be trick-or-treating in a great costume after all? Even adult costumes would be appreciated. Mom may want to dress up too!
Children's Hospitals - This is a very rewarding Halloween costume idea. During any special season, the hospital staff have to try extra hard to keep their little patient's spirits up. If you have funny adult costume that someone on their staff could dress up in and visit the kids it makes a great way to cheer them up! In some cases the hospital will allow the kids to "trick-or-treat" within the facility. Your child's old costume could put a big grin on a little patient's face.
Church (depending on the denomination) - If your local church recognizes Halloween they may know of a family that can't afford Halloween costumes. Many families prefer approaching their Church for help because they can remain anonymous, thus avoiding any awkwardness. Check with a Church official ahead to make sure they'll welcome the donation. Using this Halloween costume idea will definitely warm your heart.
Charity (ie United Way, Goodwill, etc.) - As with churches, these valuable organizations can always use donated items, including Halloween costumes. In some cases they may sell them in their own stores to raise money or they also might know of the perfect recipient for your old Halloween costume. Either way, your old costume will be helping out those less fortunate.
Hospice Stores - Many of us know first hand how valuable hospice services and their staff are. They do so much and ask for so little. Most hospice services have small retail stores where you can donate unwanted items. They will take just about anything, including a used Halloween costume that is still in good condition.
By electing to donate your used Halloween costumes you are also giving your kids a valuable lesson the rewards of helping others.
SELL IT
This Halloween costume idea is a good way to budget yourself for next year's costume.
Consignment shops - Many bargain hunters will shop at these stores first when looking for a Halloween costume. You just drop off your old costume and they sell it for you. The shop will receive a small percentage of the total sale and give you the rest. How easy is that!
Online auction sites - If you prefer to sell it yourself, you can consider using the internet. There are a number of online auction and classified sites to choose from. Be sure to thoroughly read their terms and conditions before proceeding. You can't be too careful!
Avoid donating masks or wigs, even if they are part of the costume. There are health issues that can deem them useless to anyone reselling them.
There are many ways to avoid just throwing out an old Halloween costume. Some of these Halloween costume ideas are actually quite rewarding given the great feeling of helping others in need. As long as the Halloween costume is in good shape, there is always someone who would gladly wear it.
July 4th Party Ideas - Keep Your Pets Safe
As we all look forward to celebrating this July 4th, it is important to remember your pets. There are always stories about what happens to pets on Halloween but not considering what can happen on July 4th could have tragic results. I speak from personal experience on this.
IF YOU ARE HAVING A PARTY
Young pets, especially dogs should be isolated from your guests for the duration of the July 4th party. Why?
Kittens and especially puppies will eat almost anything. If something hazardous to their health (onions or chocolate for example) should be either dropped on the floor or inadvertently given to them as a "treat" by a guest, it could have terrible consequences. Also, young (and mature) pets can be traumatized by all the unusual noise and activity created by a July 4th party. It is best to put them in a quiet room with plenty of food, water, bedding, toys and anything else that comforts them. Check on them frequently to make sure they're OK. After everyone has left and things are cleaned up, let them out and give them extra love and attention.
KEEP YOUR PETS INSIDE
Keep your pets in the house on July 4th. Even if you are not having a July 4th party, don't let your pets roam freely outside that day or especially that night. This comes from personal experience. I grew up in Miami, Florida with two beloved Maltese twin cats. One was lost due to illness but the other lived to be a healthy 17 years old. The morning of July 5th, Barney didn't come home. A neighbor rang our doorbell and there in her hands was a box, inside my beautiful Barney lay dead. She had been intentionally hit by a motorcycle by some bored teenagers out for trouble. Please don't make that mistake with your pets this Fourth of July.
LEAVE YOUR PETS AT HOME
This is another personal experience I had. We were all at a park one year watching a July 4th fireworks display when out of nowhere a terrified dog walked up to me. This poor thing had wandered away from his family and was scared to death by all the noise. Why somebody would bring their dog to a July 4th celebration is beyond me. I did my best to comfort him and eventually the owner and I connected. Happy ending there, but it could haven been worse. Even though Fido always wants be wherever you are, don't bring your pet to see July 4th fireworks or to a July 4th party.
Have fun planning your July 4th party. Use your imagination to come up with great new July 4th party ideas and maybe some neat new family traditions. Just remember to think of your furry family members. They depend on you to keep them happy, healthy and safe. Happy July 4th everyone and Happy Birthday America!

Unique Father's Day Gift Ideas for Your Elderly Dad
Loose the sweaters and books this Father's Day. Be original and sincere using these great ideas for gifts. Dad will be impressed with the very unique way you chose to honor him on his special day.
Go on a Road Trip
This Father's Day gift idea can be done a few ways. If your Dad can't drive anymore it would be great treat to take him on a scenic ride. Pack a lunch and bring a map so you both can plan a fun trip. He'll enjoy the change of scenery and you'll both enjoy some quality time together.
If Dad does still drive, this would be a good chance to make sure he is still driving safely. As our parents age, this become an important issue. Let him be the tour guide and observe how well his driving skills are. This Father's Day gift idea could be a life saver some day.
Be a Father's Day Handyman
Chances are there are probably some tasks needed around the house that he can't do anymore. So dedicate Father's Day to helping him fix all those things around the house. This Father's Day gift idea gives you great time together and accomplishes some important tasks.
If you're not the handyman type, there are services available where you can "rent" a person for a day for this purpose.
Either way it will give him piece of mind having all those things done and you've given him a great Father's Day gift too!
Satellite Radio or TV
Does your Dad like sports or other special interests? Some elderly people are a bit intimidated by the overwhelming choices available for subscription TV and radio services. They miss out on some great entertainment.
Order a year's worth of the service, and help with the installation and programming. Show him the basics on how it works and see how fast he'll come to enjoy watching or listening to his favorite sports games or movie stations. This Father's Day gift idea keeps on giving for a full year and you can renew his subscription after that!
Be His Private Chef
Oftentimes, elderly people tend not to eat properly. Especially if they live alone. They don't feel like cooking so they will choose meals that perhaps aren't the healthiest options (like frozen dinners and fast food).
Cook a wide selection of meals, package them individually and freeze them. Now he has wholesome homemade meals that he can easily enjoy. A Father's Day gift idea that's made with love!
How Safe is Dad's House?
This Father's Day gift idea is another potential life saver. Injuries from falling pose some serious risks to the elderly. Inspect his house for any safety type issues. Look for trip hazards like loose flooring or slippery rugs. The bathroom should have grab bars in the tub/shower area and a rubber mat in the bottom of the tub. If there are stairs, ensure the railings are sturdy and the stairwell is well lit.
If the laundry is done in a cellar, research the cost to purchase some small stackable washer/dryer sets and have them installed on the main floor of the house somewhere. The expense may seem great, but avoiding the risk of injury from falling down the stairs with a basketful of laundry is well worth the price. If you have siblings, share the cost amongst you for a group Father's Day gift.
Searching for the perfect Father's Day gift can be challenging enough. If Dad is elderly it can be even more difficult. Chances are they have pretty much everything they want. These great gift ideas for Father's Day will go a long way in telling him how special and loved he is.

Now mom has a gift she can sit back and relax with anytime she wants. It can be the start of a tradition, every Mother's Day you can add more pictures. A truly "never-ending" Mother's Day gift idea!
KEEP MOM SAFE
This Mother's Day gift idea can really be important. Does your mother like to surf the internet? How much does she know about staying away from scams and insecure sites? She may be vulnerable to the ever growing problem of internet schemes and security issues. If you're not sure how savvy she is about staying "internet safe" then hold a little "seminar" for her. Teach her about email scams, "phishing", what to look for on a safe web site, etc. This issue is especially important if your mom is elderly as they are easily targeted.

Wedding Lights - Choose the Right Lighting for Your Special Day
Wedding decorations play a large part in the planning process for this special occasion. Getting the right atmosphere, perhaps staying with a particular theme and dazzling all the guests are part of the tasks at hand. Using wedding lights will add ambiance, brilliance and romance to your wedding décor. Here are some of the choices available to make your special day shine.
WEDDING ROPE LIGHT DISPLAYS
Add a dramatic and elegant touch to your wedding décor using rope light displays.
Wedding rope light displays come in a variety of styles and colors. Some favorites include bells, doves and hearts. There are also roses and even cupid styles. Just plug them in and you've got a spectacular lighted wedding decoration.
Most wedding rope light displays are for indoor or outdoor use making them an easy way to decorate. Place one above the wedding party's table, over the entry way to the reception area or near the dance floor. Accent them with some string lights on white wire and you've got a truly beautiful wedding decoration.
As an added benefit, wedding rope light displays can also be used at Christmas or Valentine's Day. Once you see how beautiful these displays are, they will be the first decoration up next holiday season!
BATTERY OPERATED MINI WEDDING LIGHTS
There are two varieties of these wedding lights; incandescent or LED.
If you are using floral table centerpieces, then battery operated mini lights make the perfect accent. Nest them in your floral arrangement and turn them on. They turn an ordinary bouquet into an exquisite centerpiece.
Battery operated mini wedding lights are a great accent anywhere you want to add sparkle. Intertwine them with some white garland around windows or table tops a shimmering effect. Here's an easy wedding decoration idea. Buy an 18 inch grapevine wreath, some small dried flowers (like baby's breath) and wide white ribbon. Secure the battery pack to the back and weave the lights around the wreath. Next attach bunches of the dried flowers over the lights and wreath. Wrap the ribbon around the top to hang and you have an elegant lighted wedding decoration.
One safety consideration using battery operated incandescent mini wedding lights; they run hot so use caution when placing them near dry materials. I recommend using LED's lights which run cool making them much safer.
WEDDING STRING LIGHTS
Clean and classic, these wedding lights add luminescence and elegance to your wedding décor. Their decorating uses are limited only by your imagination.
White wedding lights are available in incandescent or LED and come in mini, globe, C6, C7 and C9 styles. The difference between incandescent and LED is economy and safety. LED wedding lights are more expensive but run cooler and more efficiently than incandescent. LED lights also use about 80% less electricity than incandescent, although they are more expensive, they pay for themselves over time. Also, LED wedding lights have a much longer bulb life than incandescent, reducing the expense of replacing worn out string lights. With the right accessories, LED wedding lights make a brilliant ceiling-to-floor display or a wonderful accent to the rope light sculptures.
Mini wedding string lights are best used as accents around windows and doors. If you are planning an outdoor wedding these lights make great arbor accents. Nesting them in the arbor's foliage creates a starry canopy for the bride and groom.
Here's a quick and easy wedding decoration idea. Loosely wrap (like a cigar) a string of LED mini wedding lights in tulle and place along the edge of a table top. You've created a gorgeous wedding decoration in just a few minutes.
Globe, C6, C7 and C9 wedding lights are best for exterior or perimeter applications. Globe wedding lights come in two sizes (G12 and G25) for added diversity. Globe wedding lights can be used as room accents like around the tops of walls or windows.
No matter what type of wedding lights you use, it is a good idea to buy an extra strand or two just in case of emergencies (the nervous bride will be forever grateful). Also, plug all the lights in to ensure they are working properly. A little preventative measure goes a long way.
Keep your wedding decorating tasks minimal and still make your guests think you've spent countless hours creating the perfect atmosphere. Wedding lights make it possible. With a little imagination and lots of fun, you'll have the perfect look for your special day!
UNIQUE EASTER BASKET IDEAS
With the Easter holiday coming soon most parents are thinking about what to put in their children's Easter baskets. Here are some great ideas to add some Easter fun to your child's Easter basket and spare the extra dentist's visit.
Although jelly beans and chocolate eggs are always popular with the kids, parents may want to include some not so sugary alternatives. Think of their Easter basket as sort of an "Easter stocking" instead.
Use your imagination! There are a multitude of different things to include in an Easter basket that are just as enjoyable as traditional Easter basket ideas. Your local dollar store can be a treasure trove of affordable but unique ideas. Games, books and movies are just a few things that you can consider.
TOYS
Toys are always a hit with kids. From Yo-Yo's and "Slinkies" to popular action figures like Barbie dolls and Power Rangers, including toys make a unique Easter basket idea that is sure to delight your child.
You can also go with plush toys like fuzzy Easter chicks or soft and cuddly Easter bunnies. Keep your child's age and gender in mind as you consider what to include, as every toy is not suitable for every child.
BOOKS
It has been said that reading to your child brings many benefits to your child's development. An Easter themed story book is not only a more healthy Easter basket idea, but you now have a great chance to spend some quality time with your child as you both settle down and enjoy a good story book.
If you child is reading on their own, don't you think they'd love a brand new book to enjoy? Let them read to you so they can show you how good a reader they are!
DVD's and CD's
Imagine your child's surprise when they see that the Easter bunny even gives out movies! They don't necessarily have to be Easter themed. How excited your child will be when they see a DVD of their favorite character in their Easter basket.
Including a favorite CD for them to enjoy is equally pleasing. They can sing along to their favorite songs as they enjoy their new toy or hunt for Easter eggs.
CRAYONS AND COLORING BOOKS
A timeless but ever so popular choice, a brand new box of crayons with a fresh Easter coloring book is always a hit.
Coloring is a great way to let a child's creative skills grow as well as an excellent way to get your child to relax after an exciting day of Easter egg hunting.
HEALTHIER SWEET TREATS
There are other sweet snacks that make great Easter basket treats. Most kids love fruit roll ups which, depending on the brand, are much healthier than candy. How about raisins? Even if you choose chocolate covered raisins, there is still a health benefit to your child snacking on a handful of fruit instead of a handful of sugar loaded candy.
Make some Easter cookies. Mom always says homemade is best! Yes, cookies contain sugar, but if you've made them yourself they won't be loaded with preservatives and dyes like store bought cookies are. Of course, since they're homemade they'll taste better too!
MONEY
Depending on your child's age, money is a great Easter basket idea. This idea is best for older children (coins are a choking hazard for young children). Get some of the new dollar coins that are now being circulated. Their shiny appeal will bring a wide smile to your child's face. Giving them a few dollars to spend is a great opportunity to start teaching them how to manage money wisely; life long habits start early!
Give your child healthy alternatives to conventional Easter basket candy and keep them just as happy without the worry of too much sugar. A great book, movie or CD gives you a wonderful chance to spend quality time with your child. Some bright and shiny dollar coins are your opportunity to teach your child all about managing money wisely. Toys, crayons and coloring books are a great choice for unique Easter basket ideas. Your child will have long lasting Easter basket goodies and you won't have to worry about all that sugar they're eating.
